Character Development

Here's a 10 week ideation project I did in Andrea Adams' character development class. I always have a blast in her classes and this was no different. Here we had to choose a character from Shakesphere and create an entirely new place to put them in, but we had to keep their original character and story. My character was Prospero from The Tempest. I had so many ideas running through my head for this that it was difficult to nail just one down. However, I ended up doing a "split personality" type thing where the girl was Prospero's calm and collected side and the man was Prospero's anger and temper. Other students just did one, but I took on a lot by doing two different characters, but I think I was pretty successful in creating the universe they lived in.

I really enjoyed this class because it was more about the character, not about the art. Granted, it couldn't be extremely sloppy, but as long as we had an understanding of who our character was and if it was reflected in our design Andrea was pretty happy.

There's another picture of some ideations I had for their creature companions, location, and weapons. There are a ton more of these laying around on my computer, but if I posted all of them, we'd be here for a while!

Costume Drawing Final

Costume drawing is/was all drawing from live models but for the final we were allowed to do whatever we wanted as long as the character showed a transition. I think my characters transformation is pretty obvious haha. Was referencing the hulk for this project.

Quick Creature Head

A little personal project I did that I ended up really liking. I took the techinques used from my Creature Design class and created another creature bust.

Environment Design

This was my first shot at Environment Design with Aaron Limonick, he's pretty awesome! I learned a ton in this class, it was a lot of work with all the master copies and ideation sketches, but it was definitely worth it.

The first project was a black and white environment. I struggled with this one a lot, but in the end it turned out pretty decent! :) It kind of looks like a Pokemon temple, but I had no intention of that haha.

The second project was a colored environment. Little did I know I was going to get tonsillitis when working on this project...it suffered a lot because of it. I missed two weeks of school and had to make up so much work. Needless to say, I'm extremely pleased with this because I did this so fast, within two days, but not much sleep haha.

Creature Design

Here are the projects I did while in Jerad Marantz's Creature Design class. This class was fun and I learn a lot about creature design and how to take critique and apply it. I also took out of the class how to render using photos, which I've never done before and I actually quite like it.

The first project was to take animals that exist and create a new creature that could actually exist on Earth. I based mine on a sugar glider.

The second project we only had a week to do (which is crazy with all of our other classes/homework!), but we had to do a photo manipulation of person, I did a friend's baby (cruel I know :P), and made it into a goblin child.

The third project was to reference real creature and then make a creature that would live on "Dark Earth," an alternate Earth where creatures are pretty strange and unnatural. The funny thing about this project, it was almost "too cute" for Jerad's taste, but he let it slide :P Hooray!

Vehicle Design

I was extremely nervous about taking the Vehicle Design class at Gnomon, I just knew that it would be a weak point of mine as I prefer characters. But for the final we had a lot of freedom and so I went with something a little more fun as oppose to realistic like a lot of the other students. I wouldn't have been able to get this done without Lil Chan's motivation!!

Product Design

Here is a project I did for Mark Hannah's Product Design class. It was fun trying to figure out how certain things should work and look for products, it's a lot different than just designing for entertainment purposes. Needless to say, I was happy with this one, even if it is a little crazy :P

Storyboarding

We had to do a storyboard in Andrea Adam's class for a script, "The Pale Blue Eye." I found it to be very enjoyable, here's a sample of it...we had to do a lot more than just this!

Sculpture

Here's what I did in John Brown's Sculpture 1 class. Most of the students in the class have never sculpted before, including me, but there was some amazing work in it. John seemed very pleased with how far I came on my sculpture and applauded me for tackling the task without needing his assistance very much.

Traditional

Before I came to Gnomon I had little to no drawing training, so I was excited to start doing traditional drawing classes at Gnomon. Here's just a few samples of some of the things I did. These aren't in chronological order, but they were all relatively done a year ago or so, I won't post my initial drawings, but man have I improved :)

Intro!

So I finally got around to creating a blog. I guess it's because I don't think I had enough stuff or that it's really good, which I'm still learning, but boy have I improved haha :P Anyways, I'm going to post stuff that I worked on at Gnomon, whether it was good or bad. This blog is a way for me to keep track of what I've done and see how much I'm improving over time :)

If you stumble upon this I hope you have a great time while you're here!
